Field Based Learning

At EDGE, teens run their own game design company that they start from the ground up. They learn what it takes to design technology, while learning about entrepreneurship, design thinking, and minds-on technology production.

During the course of the program, teens act as creative game players and producers for a cause that is meaningful, and has the potential to be transformative in their lives and in the lives of others. They are in charge of designing all elements of EDGE, from branding and marketing materials to end product(s). Please view our projects pages to learn more about our work.

In addition, teens learn through field-based learning experiences. In 2015-16, they included: the Thrival Festival, the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, the Entertainment Technology Center at CMU, and Inventionland. Our 2016-17 list of events include: Google’s Geek Street Fair, TRETC 2016 Student Showcase, and a tour of Montour High School’s Z-Space VR Lab.
